       Valdemar belongs to an elite group of American musicians who have succeeded in mastering the intricacies of the very demanding art of flamenco. Born into a musical family in upstate New York, Val began his musical studies at the age of 5, and  In his early teens, he discovered the world of flamenco.  Val dedicated himself to learning flamenco accompaniment of singers and dancers, in addition to solo guitar work, going on to develop his own personal flamenco guitar sound. His discography includes the CDs Nuestra Sangre Flamenca (1998) and Ritmo Azul (2005), and the performance video Gráfico (2000). He has appeared at numerous music and guitar festivals, and has served on the faculty at the University of Houston-Downtown Music Department. He holds MS and BA degrees from the State University of New York at Albany.
 
Val is the Musical Director and accompanist of Lucia & Valdemar - Gitanerias Flamenco, a contemporary flamenco ensemble of musicians and dancers.
 
He is also the founder of the group Celt Iberia, which performs the music of the Northern regions of Spain, i.e., Galicia and Asturias,  the genre of Spanish Celtic.

1991 and 1996 - toured the US and Canada as guitarist with the Houston Ballet, performing in two American Premiers, Ghost Dances and The Cruel Garden. Numerous Houston performances with the Ballet

From 1988 - 1996 - performed with classical guitarist Marc Garvin. In 1992, guest artist on recording with Marc Garvin.

Other Performances with Sephardic group Alhambra, the Garvin-Snaufer Duo, harpsichordist Will Volker, classical guitarist Maria Cortés, the Indian Dance troupe Anjali, and classical/jazz recording artist Anthony Weller.
